Find how many pavers a patio or walk needs. Sizes include 4×8, 6×6, 6×9, and 12×12 inch units, plus 200×100 mm and 200×200 mm. Length and width accept feet, meters, yards, centimeters, and inches.

Bedding sand is on the paver sand calculator. The crushed base is on the paver gravel calculator. A full patio stack of gravel plus sand is on the patio calculator. Manufactured stone flats and corners are the stone veneer calculator. Joint sand in pounds and bags is the polymeric sand calculator.

How many pavers

A circle uses the first dimension as the diameter. The rectangle count is unchanged while Rectangle is selected.

Pavers = net area ÷ (face length + joint) ÷ (face height + joint). The order line adds the waste percent and rounds up. A running-bond half unit at the end of a course is why the waste line exists.

How many pavers do you need?

Each paver covers its face plus the joint around it. Net area is length times width, minus any area you are not paving. Divide by that face. A 4 × 8 in paver is 32 square inches, and 144 ÷ 32 = 4.50 pavers per square foot. One hundred square feet is 450.00 pavers.

Pavers = net area ÷ (length + joint) ÷ (width + joint). The order line adds the waste percent and rounds up. Ten percent of 450.00 is 45, so the order is 495. The joint starts at 0 because a “4×8” sold size usually does not already include a spacer.

Pavers in 100 square feet

No waste. Add 10 percent on the tool if you want the order quantity. The 200 mm rows are for a 10 m² patio, not 100 square feet.

Worked example

Leave the patio at 10 ft by 10 ft, the size on 4 × 8 in, the joint at 0 in, openings at 0, and waste at 10 percent. Pavers in the area read 450.00. The order reads 495. Per square foot reads 4.50 and per square meter reads 48.44. Net area reads 9.29 m².

Circular patio

The shape menu starts on Rectangle, so the 10 by 10 foot count above stays 450.00 pavers and an order of 495. Switch it to Circle and the first dimension becomes the diameter. A 10 foot diameter is π × 5², 78.54 square feet, and the net area line reads 7.30 m². The same 4 × 8 in face, a 0 joint, and 10 percent waste are 353.43 pavers and an order of 389. Per square foot stays 4.50. Type 1/8 in in the joint and that circle is 337.45 pavers, order 372.

Frequently asked questions

How many pavers do I need?

Divide the patio area by the face of one paver plus the joint. A 10 ft by 10 ft patio of 4 × 8 in pavers, set tight, is 450.00 pavers. Ten percent extra for cuts makes the order 495. That patio is 100 square feet, and each paver is 4.50 per square foot.

How many 4x8 pavers are in 100 square feet?

One hundred square feet is the 10 by 10 foot example: 450.00 pavers with no joint. A 1/8 in joint on both sides makes the module 4.125 by 8.125 in, and the count drops to 429.65 before waste. Order the waste on top of whichever joint you will actually lay.

How many pavers per square meter?

A 4 × 8 in paver with no joint is 48.44 per square meter, which is 4.50 per square foot. A 200 × 100 mm paver with no joint is 50.00 per square meter. Add a 3 mm joint and the 200 × 100 mm module is 47.83 per square meter, so 10 m² is 478.26 pavers.

How much extra should I buy for cuts?

Ten percent is the default, and it turns 450.00 into 495. A simple rectangle with a stacked bond can live with 5 percent, which would be 473. A herringbone or a patio with curves often needs 10 to 15 percent because every edge is a cut. The order line rounds up.

Does the joint change the paver count?

Yes. The joint is added to both the length and the height before the area is divided. Zero joint on 4 × 8 in is 450.00 pavers in 100 square feet. A 1/8 in joint is 429.65. Type the joint you will space, not a nominal size that already includes it.

How much sand and gravel go under the pavers?

This page counts pavers only. Bedding sand is usually about an inch, and the crushed base under that is a separate thickness. Use the paver sand calculator for the bedding and the paver gravel calculator for the base. A 100 square foot patio at 1 inch of sand is not 450 of anything. It is a volume.

How many 12x12 pavers cover a 10 by 10 patio?

A 12 × 12 in paver is exactly 1 square foot, so 100 square feet is 100.00 pavers with no joint. Ten percent waste orders 110. Switch the size menu to 12 × 12 in and leave the 10 ft by 10 ft patio and the 0 joint. A joint of any size makes each piece cover more than a square foot, so the count falls under 100.

How many pavers for a 10 foot circular patio?

Switch the shape to Circle and leave the first dimension at 10 ft. That is the diameter. The 4 × 8 in face, the 0 joint, and 10 percent waste stay. Area is π × 5², so net area reads 7.30 m². Pavers in the area read 353.43. The order reads 389. Per square foot stays 4.50.
